Whose Fault is Student Loan Default? The Need for Better Data from Proprietary Institutions

This policy brief calls for states to collect more data from proprietary (a.k.a. for-profit) postsecondary institutions, so as to better assess the causes of these institutions’ disproportionately high student loan default rates. States already have an important tool for collecting data from proprietary institutions via statewide longitudinal education databases (SLEDs).
