The Christian Science Monitor earlier this month posted an article headlined, “Why many students might not be choosing 'right' college.” The article notes that “many students choose colleges based on price tag, unaware of available financial aid options. Colleges are increasingly taking aim at that problem.” And among those that the Christian Science Monitor spoke with about this topic is UW-Madison’s Sara Goldrick-Rab.

Scholars and affiliates of the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) have shared a variety of perspectives on the Obama administration's revamped College Scorecard, which was released on September 12 and compares colleges and universities nationwide on measures including graduate earnings, average annual cost, ​and the percent of students who can pay down their debt.

In its weekly “On Campus” report, the Wisconsin State Journal recently highlighted the efforts of the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) in tracking how the UW System’s colleges and universities have cut costs in response to the reduction in state funding. The State Journal explains how WISCAPE is “tracking the cuts’ impact through media reports and information from the universities.”

National Public Radio recently published a report examining the new College Scorecard that was unveiled by President Barack Obama on Saturday, Sept. 12. And among the experts NPR spoke with about the Consumer Reports-style college ratings system was UW-Madison’s Sara Gorldrick-Rab. “I still worry,” she tells NPR. “It's good information to have, but it doesn't tell an individual student what to do.” Goldrick-Rab is a professor of educational policy studies and sociology, and is the director and founder of the Wisconsin HOPE Lab.
