Alexander is the president of the Louisiana State University system​ and a WISCAPE affiliate. He ​​has been described as one of America's most innovative college presidents. Alexander also is an alumnus of UW-Madison who earned his Ph.D. from the School of Education's Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 1996.
