UW-Madison’s Xueli Wang will be participating in a national meeting examining “hard-to-measure” skills on Dec. 16 in Washington, D.C. With support from the National Science Foundation, the Board on Science Education of The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine is convening a Symposium on Assessing Hard-to-Measure Cognitive, Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Competencies. Wang will take part in a panel discussion titled, “Key Intrapersonal Competencies (e.g. motivation, mindsets).”

UW-Madison’s Sara Goldrick-Rab is the lead author of a new report titled, “Hungry to Learn: Addressing Food & Housing Insecurity Among Undergraduates.” The paper begins by noting: “According to a new survey of more than 4,000 undergraduates at 10 community colleges across the nation, half of all community college students are struggling with food and/or housing insecurity.” The paper has received significant media attention from outlets across the country since its release by the Wisconsin HOPE Lab.

UW-Madison’s Clifton Conrad co-authored an op-ed for the Huffington Post headlined, “To Educate a Diverse Nation, Topple the Ivory Tower.” Conrad is a Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and a faculty member with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. He is also an affiliate of the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE).
