UW faces 'chaos, uncertainty' from state budget cuts, says Radomski

May 04, 2016

Noel Radomski, director and associate researcher of the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE), noted the UW will face “chaos and uncertainty” as a result of state budget cuts in a recent Badger Herald article about the impact of cuts on the UW System.

Radomski expects the major effects of Governor Walker’s initial budget cuts to appear in spring 2018. That's when, based on historical trends, “staff will begin to receive layoff notices and changes to course availabilities and sections," he explained.

Radomski also said he believes it will be harder for UW System schools besides UW-Madison to accommodate the budget cuts, since they don’t have the same reserves and funding that UW-Madison has access to, nor can they rely on increased enrollment of non-resident and international student to generate tuition dollars.
