159 Education Building
1000 Bascom Mall
Public higher education has faced enormous challenges in recent years -- massive funding cuts, declining student enrollment, and shifting perception on the value of a degree. Many legislative leaders have called for the University of Wisconsin System, and UW-Madison in particular, to operate more like a business, often citing shared governance as a major impediment to institutional efficiency.
The Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) is pleased to cosponsor this forum on shared governance, hosted by PROFS. A panel of nationally known experts will guide the discussion:
Karen Herzog, a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel higher education reporter, will moderate. The program will include time for questions from the audience.
- Gary Rhoades, professor, University of Arizona; director, Center for the Study of Higher Education; former General Secretary, AAUP
- David Maxwell, president emeritus, Drake University; senior consultant, Association of Governing Boards
- Regina Millner, regent, University of Wisconsin System; Board President Emeritus
- Thomas Harnisch, director of state relations and policy analysis, American Association of State Colleges and Universities
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
