Description

Alberto J. MaldonadoJacki BlackJoin the Wisconsin Center for the Advancement of Postsecondary Education (WISCAPE) for a discussion with Jacqueline Black and Alberto Jose Maldonado about their campuses' initiatives to support Latin@ students and their shared goal of becoming Hispanic Serving Institutions over the next decade.

Jacqueline Black is the associate director of Hispanic initiatives at Marquette University, and Alberto Jose Maldonado is the interim director of the Roberto Hernandez Center and the lead of the Chancellor’s Committee for Hispanic Student Initiatives at UW-Milwaukee.

In order to be designated a Hispanic Serving Institution, colleges/universities must have a Hispanic enrollment that is at least 25 percent of the institution's total enrollment. Marquette’s current Hispanic enrollment is 10.6 percent, and UW-Milwaukee's Hispanic enrollment is 9.9 percent.

Marquette University and UW-Milwaukee would be the first campuses in Wisconsin to become Hispanic Serving Institutions.

This event is cosponsored by the Latin American, Caribbean & Iberian Studies Program and the Chican@ and Latin@ Studies Program at UW-Madison.

Though an RSVP is not required to attend, please let us know you're coming on Facebook and invite your friends.
